Realizing the importance of debate competitions to improve the quality of graduates and higher education, the Directorate General of Learning and Student Affairs of the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education developed the Indonesian Student Debate Competition (KDMI) activity. KDMI is a national-level debate competition that uses Indonesian to determine the pattern of student development and provides a forum for developing student potential so that they become human beings who have faith and piety, noble character, knowledgeable, capable, creative, skilled, competent, and cultured.

This annual activity is a positive event for Biology Department students, FMIPA UNG, to show their best ability in critical thinking and communication, increase self-confidence, develop networks between universities, foster a sense of unity and pride in national and cultural diversity. In this event, the Department of Biology, FMIPA UNG, won the best I and III rankings at the Faculty Level. KDMI is able to encourage students not only to be able to express ideas in Indonesian, but also to require students to be able to master global knowledge, analyze, make judgments, and convince the public. In the debate, students will be faced with real problems faced by society or nation.
